Navigating Workplace Pressure: What to Do When You Feel Singled Out

Some employees feel they’re being treated differently at work facing more scrutiny, heavier workloads, or higher expectations than their peers. This can create stress and uncertainty about your role and future.
The good news: there are constructive steps you can take to address it and improve communication with your supervisor.

What You Can Do

1. Pause and reflect: Give yourself permission to consider whether any feedback, however uncomfortable, may be useful. It’s natural to feel defensive, but staying open can reveal opportunities for growth.
2. Request a one-on-one meeting: Ask for a calm, private conversation with your supervisor to clarify expectations, priorities, and concerns.
3. Seek a trusted perspective: Talk with a coworker you respect who can offer an objective, honest viewpoint on the situation.
4. Use your EAP for support: EAP can help you stay objective, process your concerns, and prepare for a productive discussion.

Addressing the issue early can reduce stress and often lead to clearer expectations and a stronger professional relationship.
