Highland Hospital Geriatric Fracture Program Achieves Premier Recertification

Thursday, January 5, 2017

Highland’s Geriatric Fracture Care Program has been recertified by the International Geriatric Fracture Society (IGFS). It has received the highest level of recertification available, Premier Level Status, through the IGFS CORE Certification Program. In achieving this recognition, Highland joins a small collection of trailblazing fracture care programs in the United States that have achieved this designation.

The CORE Certification Program is a global quality improvement initiative designed to recognize the achievements of programs that exceed outcome benchmarks in the management of geriatric fractures.  Over the last two years, Highland Hospital’s team of dedicated professionals have illustrated their ability to achieve sustained outcomes that outperform the clinical quality and performance improvement benchmarks as identified by the IGFS.
Highland has a strong geriatric fracture program that is led by exceptional staff,” said Teresa K. Swenson, BSH, CCRP, R.T. (R) (CT) (ARRT)IGFS Certification Specialist from Geisinger Medical Center.  “I view Dr. Daniel Mendelson as a father of geriatric medicine and am honored to work with him. The Highland program exceeds expectations and as such has certainly met all requirements for IGFS re-certification of their institution.”

The mission of the IGFS is to promote co-management of fragility fractures centered around an inter-disciplinary team that focuses on key quality indicators such as time to surgery, readmission rates, mortality, and osteoporosis education.  The CORE Certification Program was developed by the IGFS team of international experts representing thought-leaders in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America.  This was the first major initiative of the organization to recognize achievements of Geriatric Fracture Care Programs that are delivering the highest quality care to this patient population.
