Time and Career at Highland Hospital
|
While in nursing school, I began working on W5 as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in 2007. After graduation, I transitioned from a PCT to Graduate Nurse (GN). I decided to stay on W5 because I liked my co-workers and the types of patients treated on the unit. I chose Highland because it’s a small, quiet hospital where staff and visitors alike are friendly and positive. Everyone says hello and smiles when walking in the halls.

Role on the Progressive Care Unit
|
W5 can be a challenging unit to work on. We see many patients with chronic and acute illness. The nurses are certified in telemetry, as well as ventilators. W5 has a diverse patient population and nursing staff. We have unique backgrounds and have taken a variety of paths to our nursing careers. Every nurse on our unit looks out for and learns from one another on a daily basis. The number one goal is to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
I’m a charge nurse who is currently an ASPN II pursuing ASPN III. I precept other RNs and try to give them the same high-quality orientation to W5 that I received in my transition from PCT to GN.

Philosophy of Care |
I treat others the way I would want to be treated. I’m a nurse because I genuinely care about and want to care for people.

What I Like Best About My Job |
As a team player, I’m always willing to lend a helping hand. I make sure the day runs as smoothly as possible and troubleshoot when necessary. I’m an active member of Unit Council. I love to teach new nurses and orient experienced nurses to the W5 routine. I also appreciate the opportunity to be able to further my education and career with the full support of management and leadership.
