The Department of Imaging Sciences at the University of Rochester Medical Center encompasses outstanding education, research, and clinical excellence in a leading academic health sciences institution. Our faculty are nationally recognized authorities in their respective fields. Our clinical programs are primarily conducted at the University of Rochester Medical Center at Strong Memorial Hospital. This tertiary care center houses Strong Children’s Hospital, the University of Rochester Cancer Center, a Level I Trauma Center, and specialized referral services. Additional services are provided at Highland Hospital, a Strong Memorial affiliate, and two outpatient facilities: University Medical Imaging and our PET-CT Center at Science Park. Ambulatory sites throughout the community and remote sites in the area are accessible by teleradiology.
The Department of Imaging Sciences is composed of three hospitals and several outpatient imaging centers providing digital and computed radiography, digital fluoroscopy, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT, MR, and angiography services. We currently operate CT scanners (16, 32, 64, and 128 slice), MRI machines (1.5 and 3 Tesla magnets), and a PET-CT scanner and the region's only PET-MRI scanner.
The Department of Imaging Sciences provides the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures with quality, efficiency, compassion, and service of the highest order to our patients, their families, and physicians. We serve as the teaching model for the entire medical community with an emphasis on an exceptional patient experience. The Department’s leadership role in community and academic radiology is to be maintained through innovative research and clinical practices utilizing state of the art technology.
Our vision is to be the preferred provider of all imaging services and to promote, develop and integrate advances in imaging technology and imaging-based therapeutic procedures into the clinical, education, and research missions of the University of Rochester.
