Find Journal Articles

Databases enable you to find articles on a topic.

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) - covers more nursing journals than any other database.
PubMed - provides access to the Medline database, the premier biomedical database. Covers some nursing literature.
PsycINFO - covers psychological, social, behavioral, and health sciences literature. Also includes citations to books, book chapters, and dissertations.
Cochrane Library - includes Cochrane systematic reviews.

Check the e-journal list to see if the full text of the article you need is available electronically.

The book you need may be available online, so check the list of all of our e-books.

If the book or journal that you need is not available electronically, check Voyager, the library's online catalog to see if it is available in print.

Lexicomp Online is the source for drug information.

Bibliographic management

Bibliographic management software helps you organize references and format bibliographies and manuscripts. They allow you to import citations from databases such as CINAHL and PubMed; create personal databases of references; and format bibliographies and muscripts using different citation styles, such as APA.

RefWorks is web-based so you don't need to download anything; EndNote must be downloaded to your computer. Both are available at no cost.

Register for the Bibliographic Management class to get an overview of both products to determine which software is best for you.

APA Style - Miner does not have a subscription to the online manual, but check out the tutorial, blog, and Ask an Expert options.

APA Style - official site from APA to accompany APA style Manual, 6th ed., 2009.

Purdue Online Writing Lab - Purdue does a great job explaining APA and the site is very easy to use.

Learn how to search databases such as CINAHL and PubMed and how to use bibliographic management software to organize your references. Classes are available at no cost.
