Composite of histology images

Mission Statement

The primary mission of the HBMI Core is to provide high quality histological, biochemical, and molecular imagining services as well as training in histological and imaging techniques to investigators with the Center for Musculoskeletal Research (CMSR) and the University of Rochester who study musculoskeletal tissue biology and pathology.

Services include:

  • Paraffin and frozen tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning.
  • Histological staining.
  • Guidance and support for histomorphometric and molecular imaging analysis.

New Bioinformatics Service Announcement

We are pleased to provide more information about a new bioinformatics service being offered in the CMSR. As part of the recent P30 award, we have partnered with the Genomics Research Center to onboard Dr. Lauren Benoodt as a senior bioinformatics analyst embedded in the CMSR.  As we roll out this service there are two main opportunities to leverage this resource.

Single cell seq Bootcamp

This training series is for trainees who do not have extensive experience working with single cell sequencing datasets. Given the limited space in this workshop, to send trainees to the bootcamp labs must either have their own scSeq dataset, or have samples that have been submitted to the GRC. We anticipate offering this training opportunity again in the future. This bootcamp will be offered as a series of four full-day workshops (one day/week for four weeks) with an anticipated start in July 2022.

Topics Covered:

  • Working with R
  • Raw data quality control
  • Using Seurat
If you have trainees that you would like to attend this session please email Alayna Loiselle by 5/20/2022.

Bioinformatics Consulting Service

For trainees and investigators with experience in scRNA-seq and/or Spatial Transcriptomics datasets who have specific questions regarding data analysis, Lauren will offer consulting services on a fee for service basis ($50/hr. pending approval of 2023 budget). Those wishing to schedule a consultation with Lauren can contact her at Lauren_Benoodt@urmc.rochester.edu.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Chia-lung Wu and Alayna Loiselle.
