Scope of Fellowship

The core activity of the fellowship training program will remain an intensive clinical exposure to both adult and pediatric MS patients with the lead clinical mentor (A Goodman) and other faculty mentors (J Robb, M Bellizzi, L Samkoff, M Hyland, R Stone). This is complemented by a regular schedule of clinical conferences, research conferences, journal clubs, and faculty-led topical didactic discussions. Additional personalized experiences will be in allied disciplines of neuroimaging, neuro-ophthalmology, neurorehabilitation, neuropalliative care, and neuropsychology. Our MS center resources include an MS comprehensive care clinic with a patient population of over 2500 drawn from a broad catchment area encompassing upstate New York and the northern tier of Pennsylvania. The multi-disciplinary clinical staff includes 3 NPs, social workers, research nurse coordinators, as well as an infusion center-nursing cadre. An important feature of this program is the opportunity to perform faculty-supervised consultations for inpatients with aggressive presentations of MS and other CNS inflammatory disorders that mimic MS. Our fellows will also have exposure to and the option for participation in a rich variety of MS-related research in cutting edge experimental therapeutics (A Goodman), clinical outcomes/economics (R Holloway), translational laboratory studies (J Hammond; S Goldman) that are funded by the NeuroNext (NINDS), NIAID, PCORI, NMSS, and industry.
