I chose the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) for my postdoctoral fellowship because of its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, dedication to underserved populations, and the opportunity to deepen my work with diverse youth and families. I’m excited to work with children and teens who are navigating complex experiences, including trauma, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other neurodevelopmental differences—honoring each individual’s unique strengths and needs. My training includes Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and psychological assessment to support diagnostic clarity and guide treatment planning. I’m passionate about creating a safe, affirming space for young people and committed to providing culturally responsive, evidence-based care that supports growth and healing.

Doug Welsh

Douglas Welsh, PsyD
Integrated Care Family Track (Functional Neurologic Disorders)
Roberts Wesleyan University

As a second-year fellow, I am excited to continue my training with the Integrated Care Family Track, with an emphasis on functional neurology. I have enjoyed the opportunity to gain experience treating Functional Neurological disorders and other stress-sensitive disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings. Each patient carries unique complexities in their presentations, and I value working with them in untangling these webs to improve functioning in their lives. The medical family therapy post-degree certificate program has empowered me to more effectively work with patients’ families to build their understanding of neurological disorders and how to support their autonomy. Lastly, I have relished my opportunity to support neurology residents with their communication with patients. This experience has proven valuable for residents in sharpening their communication and feeling more confident in treating patient concerns. In my second year, I look forward to expanding upon these training goals and exploring new roles I can take on as a psychologist in an integrated healthcare system.
