Stroke in the Community

Over 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke each year, including nearly 3,000 individuals in the Rochester region alone. A key objective of the Mobile Stroke Unit, is that its high visibility will enhance the community's awareness of stroke and the importance of calling 911 whenever someone is witnessed to have acute stroke  symptoms. In addition, studies have described significant differences in stroke burden and stroke incidence in the African American and Hispanic populations. These ethnic groups have a risk rate 2-3 times higher than the white population.

Our Community Partners

UR Comprehensive Stroke Center is actively partnering with many Rochester area agencies to educate communities on the prevalence, risk factors and recognition of symptoms associated with stroke.
