When Your Manager Says “See Me”
Before the meeting, pause and take an honest look at your recent work. Identify what’s going well, where you’ve struggled, and any factors that may have impacted your performance. Approach the conversation as a chance to gather useful intelligence even if the feedback feels critical or imperfect. During the meeting, listen more than you speak. Take notes, stay calm, and resist the urge to get defensive. Ask for clarification when needed, and make sure you leave with a clear understanding of expectations going forward. Treat everything you hear as data: something you can learn from and use to improve. Afterward, act quickly. Follow through on feedback without needing reminders and check in periodically to show progress and stay aligned. Instead of wondering what your boss is thinking, ask directly. If the conversation leaves you rattled, process it with your EAP. EAP provides free, confidential support to help you manage stress and move forward with a clear plan.
