Preventive Cardiology

Heart disease remains the number one killer in the U.S., and the best way to beat it is to prevent it.

The Preventive Cardiology Program at UR Medicine offers the most advanced, proven methods for preventing heart disease and enjoying a healthy lifestyle.

The first of its kind in our region, our program features

  • Support in quitting smoking-one of the most powerful ways to protect the health of your heart-including a large group dedicated to helping you stop smoking
  • A Women’s Heart Program for specialized care designed to prevent heart disease in women.
  • Diet and exercise programs to help you lose weight and reduce your risk for developing heart disease.
  • Heart disease prevention for the whole family, working with relatives who may have inherited a higher risk.
  • Research that can offer patients access to the most advanced approaches for preventing heart disease.

Our Preventive Cardiology Team

  • Dr. John Bisognano is the former President of the American Society of Hypertension and actively involved in community initiatives in improving blood pressure control. He and his team will find the best medications for you to control your blood pressure and has expertise in the treatment of patients with severe or resistant hypertension.
  • Dr. Block, a certified lipidologist, is an expert in controlling unhealthy cholesterol levels including those in patients with genetic conditions such as familial hypercholesterolemia.
  • Dr. Geoff Williams, runs a large group which is dedicated to helping you stop smoking. We can help you quit smoking using state of the art motivational techniques and medications — one of the most powerful ways to protect the health of your heart. Dr. Williams is also certified in lipidology and hypertension.
