Every day, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and cardiovascular nurses come together at URochester Medicine to bring patients the most comprehensive, technologically advanced care available in the Rochester region. They’re deeply experienced in their respective specialties. They participate in groundbreaking research into new treatments. And, most of all, they bring a personal touch and collaborative spirit to every case.

Doctors from cardiology and cardiac surgery work together to provide a completely individualized treatment. Our cardiologists have expertise in every type of cardiovascular disease, from heart failure to hypertension and heart rhythm disorders. Our internationally recognized, board certified surgeons deliver the most comprehensive care to patients of all ages. They’re responsible for all pediatric cases from Utica to Buffalo. Plus they serve within the region’s only tertiary care center for patients who have end-stage heart failure, complex aortic disease, or who require high-risk cardiac procedures.

Her Heart Stopped

Brynn Taylor was born with a rare, life-threatening heart defect. Weighing just 2 pounds at birth, Brynn would need to wait until she weighed 5 pounds to have open-heart surgery at University of Rochester Medicine Golisano Children's Hospital.

Kris's Story

Kris won an Olympic Gold Medal in 1984 in Women's Rowing. At the age of 47, she suffered a heart attack. Kris was treated at University of Rochester Medicine F.F. Thompson Hospital, part of Thompson Health in Canandaigua, and was then transferred to University of Rochester Medicine Strong Memorial Hospital for more extensive care. She then returned to Thompson for cardiac rehab. Kris has now returned to an active life of rowing and took up a new sport: ice hockey.

Leader in clinical research. Our researchers have developed heart care advances and devices that are used around the world.

Heart failure treatments. With our help, many patients in Class III or IV heart failure improve to Class I or II. URochester Medicine Cardiac Care has the region's only program dedicated to heart failure.

Heart transplants. We are the only medical center in the region that can perform heart transplant surgery.

Leadership in heart rhythm treatment. Heart rhythm disorders like atrial fibrillation can lead to stroke or cardiac arrest. URochester Medicine Cardiac Care has one of the world's leading programs for treating abnormal heart rhythms.

VAD leadership. We are a national leader in the use of ventricular assist devices (VAD), having been involved in most major VAD studies over the past 15 years.

First for valves. We are the first medical center in the region to offer transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for the treatment of heart valve disease.

Aneurysm relief. URochester Medicine Cardiac Care leads the region in providing minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of aneurysms.

Fastest response. Our Heart Attack Team is on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we have the fastest response times in the region. 

The most cardiologists. We have more board-certified heart specialists on staff than any other medical center in the region.

Women's heart program. Women's symptoms of heart attack can be completely different from men's. Our Women's Heart Program provides the specialized care women need to prevent and treat heart disease.

Fully equipped facilities. We have three electrophysiology labs for ablation and device implants and four catheterization. Or newest lab provides robotic navigation for radiofrequency ablation, resulting in greater precision, safety and versatility.
