What to Bring and What to Leave Home

What to Bring

  • A list of your medications
  • Medical insurance cards
  • Eye glasses and case
  • Hearing aid
  • Dentures and case
  • Slippers
  • List of important phone numbers (family, friends, etc.)
  • Hair ties or rubber bands to control long hair
  • Any crutches or braces your surgeon has instructed you to bring
  • Reading material, crossword puzzles
  • C-PAP and/or B-PAP

Do Not Wear or Bring

  • Remove contact lenses
  • Remove all nail polish
  • Don’t wear any jewelry including wedding bands, rings, and earrings, and body piercings.
  • Valuables: Be advised that the hospital is not responsible for your personal items or valuables.
  • Electrical appliances such as hair dryers, CD players, electric razors, TVs, and other audio/video equipment are not permitted to be brought into the hospital according to the standards of the Joint Commission, a nationally recognized, independent organization that evaluates hospitals on safety and quality performance standards.

If Scheduled For an Overnight Stay

  • Clothing: We provide patients with hospital gowns. Personal bedclothes may be worn with approval from the nursing staff.
  • Toiletries: All patients are furnished with basic toiletries. Ask your nurse if specific items are needed.
  • Personal items: Keep dentures, glasses, and hearing aids in your bedside table. Don’t leave them on your food tray. The hospital will not replace these items if they are lost.
