Research Catalyst Program

The University of Rochester Institute for Human Health and the Environment (IHHE) supports a limited number of meritorious pilot projects under the Research Catalyst Program. These pilot projects provide a means for investigators to obtain preliminary data for extramural grant applications, develop new innovative research initiatives, access novel technologies, and build new opportunities to address community needs and inform public health protection efforts. A diverse range of topics is welcome, including basic, applied, translational, computational, education or social sciences research, as well as community-based participatory research projects. Multi- and transdisciplinary projects are particularly encouraged, and multiple-PI projects are permitted.

Eligibility

Faculty at the UR are eligible to apply. Investigators who are interested in studying new questions related to how the environment influences human health and in developing new partnerships with Institute affiliates are encouraged.

Focus Areas

A broad spectrum of research will be considered responsive. Research that addresses climate change and health, environmental justice, cumulative risk, how environmental factors experienced during one life-stage influence health and disease later in life, and factors in food, water and air that modulate health are of particular interest.

Research Catalyst Funds are accepted twice a year (Fall and Spring) and up to $50,000 can be requested. Application required a one-page preliminary application. Please see detailed description below:
