Seeds for Collaboration

Dirk Bohmann, Ph.D., senior associate dean of Basic Research, and John J. Foxe, Ph.D., director of the Del Monte Institute for Neuromedicine and chair of the Department of Neuroscience, have created "Seeds for Collaboration," a scientific social hour.

The goal of this monthly mixer is to germinate and incubate discourse that will lead to interdepartmental and cross-disciplinary collaboration, discoveries, publications and grant applications.

Each event will open with mingling for the first 30 minutes, followed by three five- to eight-minute talks. Each presentation may contain a maximum of five slides per speaker. After all three presentations have concluded, the floor will be opened for discussion.

The upcoming November 2017 mixer will feature the following talks:

"Peering into the dark regions of genomes: the genomics of heterochromatin in Drosophila" presented by Amanda M. Larracuente, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Biology (River Campus).
"Neurophysiology of Aging" presented by Charles Duffy, M.D., Ph.D., Professor, Department of Neurology, Department of Neuroscience (Medical Center), Center for Visual Science (River Campus).
"Epigenetic Control of Erythropoiesis" presented by Laurie Steiner, Ph.D., Department of Pediatrics, Neonatology (Medical Center).

This event will occur monthly during the academic year. All are welcome to attend, and no registration is required.
