Highland welcomes Sheryl Valente, MPA, as Senior Program Administrator, Medicine. In concert with department leadership, Valente will manage the staffing, budget, operations, and overall functions of the department. Valente has more than 20 years of experience with progressive responsibility in health care program administration.

She most recently served as Managing Director for Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services since 2018 and in roles at Rochester Regional Health from 2010 to 2018 as Director of Operations for their Department of Medicine and Senior Director of Operations of the Department of Medicine and Ophthalmology.

Valente succeeds Debbie O’Connor, who is stepping down from the role. O’Connor will continue to assist the department at Highland on a per diem basis through the 2023 budget process. O’Connor began her career at Highland as the manager of the Nephrology Unit, where she served for 22 years. In 2006 she transitioned to the Department of Medicine as the Senior Program Administrator. She worked closely with Dr. Bob McCann, former Chief of Medicine, and Dr. Daniel Mendelson, Associate Chief of Medicine, to grow the department, resulting in an expansion of 161% over her 15 years. O’Connor was named Leader of the Year in 2012 and, more recently, was instrumental in the ePARC transition.
