Highland Hospital Graduate Medical Education Programs demonstrated compliance with all New York State Workforce and Supervision regulations at a triennial on-site audit by state-contracted peer review organization IPRO.

All UR residency programs require compliance with regulation to remain accredited as training programs. “In addition, New York State requires compliance with employment rules and regulations for residents.,” said Joseph Nicholas, M.D., Associate Chief of Medicine, and Director of Medical Education, at Highland. “This audit is like a mini Joint Commission survey.  They make sure we are in compliance with supervision and faculty oversight standards by looking through charts, clinical schedules, and more to make sure residents have appropriate time off and adhere to other regulations.”

The results were that Highland had no deficiencies in the 15 programs studied. “The fact that we have no deficiencies demonstrates that residents have excellent faculty supervision when they come through Highland,” said Dr. Nicholas.

IPRO conducts an annual review offsite. Every three years they come onsite and stay for 2-3 days. The next review will be in 2026.
