For Fellows

Dr. Carla CasuloI am a fellowship director because I love seeing someone’s career goals and professional ambitions become reality. I am passionate about teaching and mentoring, and truly enjoy guiding trainees through the intricacies of becoming a hematologist/ oncologist. Ours is an interdisciplinary field that overlaps research, basic science, biology, and drug discovery with profound humanism, and the daily encounter with serious illness and death. However leading the next generation of physician scientists to the cutting edge of practice is both inspiring and humbling. It is gratifying to observe a fellow’s journey over time from apprentice to colleague. Being fellowship director is a unique experience that permits me to combine education, career development, research and clinical practice into one cohesive role."

Internal Medicine fellowship programs housed within the Department of Medicine are a diverse but connected group of training programs that offer advanced and individualized training in the subspecialties. Fellows benefit from a training environment that emphasizes excellence in patient care and scholarship, faculty committed to education, and the full breadth and depth of clinical activities within each specialty.

As the premier academic medical center in upstate New York, URMC provides a full range of services to a broad and diverse patient population, ensuring that fellows have the opportunity to develop experience and expertise in all areas of their field. Fellowship programs are committed to providing high quality and individualized training for each subspecialty fellow, with ample opportunities to develop clinical, procedural, educational, and research skills, in a supportive, inclusive, and equitable environment. Fellows may participate in clinical, translational, basic science, quality, educational, or other research activities across the Department, supported by faculty mentorship within a world-class research institution.

Housed alongside the internal medicine and medicine-pediatrics residency programs, fellowship programs and program directors benefit from collaboration and opportunities to share best practices, shared coordinator and administrative support, and the educational leadership of the department. Fellows completing subspecialty training at URMC go on to practice in many settings, confident in their skills and ready for the next phase of their career.
