I am a fellowship director because I love seeing someone’s career goals and professional ambitions become reality. I am passionate about teaching and mentoring, and truly enjoy guiding trainees through the intricacies of becoming a hematologist/ oncologist. Ours is an interdisciplinary field that overlaps research, basic science, biology, and drug discovery with profound humanism, and the daily encounter with serious illness and death. However leading the next generation of physician scientists to the cutting edge of practice is both inspiring and humbling. It is gratifying to observe a fellow’s journey over time from apprentice to colleague. Being fellowship director is a unique experience that permits me to combine education, career development, research and clinical practice into one cohesive role."
