Program Directors
Rita Dadiz, D.O.
Dr. Dadiz is the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship program director. Her clinical and research expertise focuses on the applications of educational innovation and simulation-based learning to improve patient safety, patient care and the clinical learning environment. She collaborates with educators and researchers across professions and disciplines, serving as the co-director of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry’s Dean’s Teaching Fellowship for faculty educators. In addition, she directs the Neonatal Innovation and Safety Simulation Program and is an associate editor of the American Academy of Pediatrics journal, NeoReviews.
Irina Prelipcean, M.D.
Dr. Prelipcean serves as an Associate Program Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship. Her area of academic interest is integrated monitoring and improvement of outcomes in critically ill neonates. She is training in Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography (TnECHO) and developing her research in hemodynamics and biomarkers involved in the neonatal brain and adrenal dysfunction. She is a member of the Neonatal Clinical Research Group and Neonatal Hemodynamics Research Centre.
Jonathan Burris, M.D.
Dr. Burris serves as an Associate Program Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship as well as the Associate Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Complex Delivery Service. His clinical and research interests encompass delivery planning and immediate post-delivery care of neonates with complex conditions, improving pulmonary clinical outcomes through less invasive surfactant therapy, multidisciplinary collaboration in infants with congenital cardiac disease, and investigating the utility of biomarkers in allergic proctocolitis. Integral to Dr. Burris’ academic and teaching interests is graduate medical education where he strives to support and foster the individualized growth of residents and fellows in becoming compassionate and strong leaders within pediatrics and neonatology.
Division Chief
Carl T. D’Angio, M.D.
Dr. D'Angio is Chief of the Division of Neonatology. He attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University and received his Pediatric training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia before completing the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Rochester. His research focuses on clinical trials in the newborn. He is principal investigator for a combined University of Rochester-University of Buffalo site in the NICHD Neonatal Research Network, a 15-center consortium performing research in newborns. He has particular interests in immunizations, infection, and clinical and research ethics. He is an attending neonatologist at both URMC and Rochester General Hospital.
