Course Schedule The curriculum we recommend includes a small set of required graduate level courses to provide broad training in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular genetics, as well as opportunities to obtain specialized advanced training in areas closely related to the student's interests. The curriculum is designed to be flexible so that the student can choose from the broadest possible selection of research opportunities at the University of Rochester. We anticipate that many of the students choosing to work within this cluster will elect Ph.D. training in Pharmacology or Physiology; however, the flexibility of our recommended curriculum allows requirements for other degree programs to be accommodated. Preliminary Examination No preliminary examination required. Qualifying Examination Qualifying exam should be completed before December 1 of 3rd year. 2nd Year Second-year courses relate to specific degree programs and will be selected from a menu of in-depth electives that will allow each student to tailor his or her area of study to material relevant to their research interests.
