​On November 5, we invited staff and providers to sign their names on a metal beam that will be used in the construction of Highland’s new South Tower.  We were delighted to see dozens of people join us in celebrating one of our most significant milestones to date by penning  their name on a piece of the hospital’s future. South Tower Project Leaps Forward with Tower Crane

A free standing static tower crane is now part of the Highland skyline.  With a height of 226 feet and a horizontal boom with a 360° rotation, the crane’s primary function is to move construction materials, such as structural steel, air handling equipment, windows, doors, and drywall for the construction of the South Tower Project.

Highland Achieves ANCC Magnet® Recognition Again!

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) announced that Highland Hospital has been redesignated as a Magnet® hospital! Magnet designation is the highest recognition for nursing excellence and an honor that less than eight percent of hospitals in the United States receive. The ANCC, which determines Magnet® status, made the announcement to Highland leadership and staff. In its presentation, ANCC’s Magnet committee specifically commented that Highland’s work outperformed four national benchmarks under the category of Exemplary Professional Practice (EP) Nurse Sensitive Indicators.

Highland Hospital Orthopaedics has a reputation for world-class medical and surgical services and compassionate care in the comfort of a community hospital. A part of the robust and cohesive service line at UR Medicine Department of Orthopaedics & Physical Medicine, it continues to thrive. “This is the busiest time of the year for Orthopaedics,” said Catherine A. Humphrey, M.D., M.B.A., Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, who has been Chief of Orthopaedics at Highland since 2013. “We are still working to care for patients who put off treatments during the initial phases of the pandemic and we have some new developments to announce.”
