Clinical Setup for Consults
The URMC Palliative Care Program offers opportunities for patients and families to receive palliative care consultation services throughout URMC in both inpatient and outpatient settings. There is also the potential to receive a home-based consultation for selected patients within Monroe County.
Once a consultation request has been received, treatment coordination begins.
Palliative care can be provided in Strong Memorial Hospital on the Sussman Palliative Care Inpatient Unit, the only hospital-based, dedicated palliative care unit in the region.
Palliative care consultations can also be provided anywhere else in the hospital, including the Emergency Department. Consultations are also provided for outpatients in a variety of settings including the Wilmot Cancer Center, the Ambulatory Care Building, as well as in the patient’s own home.
In addition to our clinical center, Palliative Care consultations can now be performed at the Golisano Children's Hospital, Thompson Health, Interlakes Medical Center and Sands Cancer Center.
Members of the URMC Palliative Care team can also serve as a patient’s attending physician for patients who transition to hospice care and are treated in or outside the hospital, in their own homes, hospice houses, or other settings.
