AIR Research Presented at ACR National Meeting

The AIR Division was well represented at the American College of Rheumatology's national meeting in Washington, DC November 11-16, 2016. This meeting highlights the most current research findings as they relate to Rheumatology. Six faculty members and one fellow had a total of 10 presentations which included posters, panel discussions, meet the professor sessions, and oral presentations. Christopher Ritchlin, M.D., MPH served as a moderator for sessions centering on psoriatic arthritis and spondyloarthropathies.

AIR Researchers Demonstrate Role for B Cells in Bone Erosion in RA

AIR researchers have uncovered a new mechanism of bone erosion and a possible biomarker for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The group is the first to demonstrate that immune cells, called B cells, contribute directly to the breakdown of bone in RA by producing a signaling molecule called RANKL.
